Ten-man El Relleno snatch a point in chaotic draw Zalazar the hero as MNC's indiscipline costs them
Down to ten men after Federico Pinto’s red card, El Relleno battle back to claim a valuable 2–2 draw against Monday Night Crew.
They had ten men for over twenty minutes. They were chasing the game with the clock winding down. By every logical measure, El Relleno should have lost this match. Instead, they produced one of the most defiant, gritty, character-laden performances of the season to earn a 2–2 draw that felt, by the final whistle, like one of the most important points of their campaign.
Monday Night Crew's Santiago Gil was booked in the 22nd minute — an early warning of the disciplinary chaos that would follow — before Leonard Flores broke the deadlock on 37 minutes, assisted by Piero Echegaray, to give MNC a lead their pressure had deserved. Ricardo Mor Tatis was booked on 48 minutes as tensions continued to simmer.
Then came the match's pivotal five-minute sequence. Santos Gonzalez drew El Relleno level on 56 minutes to make it 1–1, only for Santiago Gil to restore MNC's advantage in the same 56th minute to make it 1–2. The swing happened so fast it left everyone breathless. El Relleno pushed forward desperately, and Facundo Zalazar delivered — his strike on 64 minutes made it 2–2 and sent the home crowd into rapture.
Then came the red card. Federico Pinto was dismissed on 69 minutes, reducing El Relleno to ten men at the worst possible moment. Monday Night Crew swarmed forward — Casey Quintero booked on 72 minutes, Nico Bared booked on 81 minutes, Joaquin Ferrari booked on 83 minutes — but they simply could not find a way through a wall of El Relleno defending that was nothing short of heroic. The draw was held. The point was earned. And it felt like so much more than one.
★ MAN OF THE MATCH: FACUNDO ZALAZAR (El Relleno) — His equaliser was the turning point of the entire match. Scored it with ten men still to come, with pressure mounting, with everything against his side — and then led the defensive effort that preserved the draw for the remaining twenty-plus minutes. A complete, magnificent performance under the most difficult of circumstances.
