The breakthrough came when Ivan Garcia produced a brilliant individual play to earn Miami Sporting a penalty, then stepped up himself to give his team the lead. The momentum continued as Deynis Morales delivered an incredible solo run and found the back of the net to make it 2–0. South Pointe refused to surrender, earning a penalty that Gonzalo Balaguer calmly converted to bring the score to 2–1, but Miami Sporting remained composed as the final minutes ticked away.
